چکیده

This contribution describes DESPEC [1] (DEcay SPECtroscopy) which together with HISPEC [2] constitutes one of the proposed and accepted joint experiments of NuSTAR. Decay studies of implanted activities will be vital for our understanding of nuclear structure and astrophysics far from stability where FAIR will produce the most exotic beams of nuclei with short half-lives. Decay studies of isomeric levels is also a central part of the experimental plan. Another very interesting application of DESPEC is to work in combination with HISPEC for recoil tagging experiments. Last year we described the scientific motivation for DESPEC. In the present report we will rather focus on the “core” experimental set-up which is presented in Fig.1. Most of the experiments planned at DESPEC will involve radioactive beams from

PRESPEC: Driving on the FAIR road of HISPEC/DESPEC

Fingerprinting excited nuclear states by γ-ray spectroscopy has been a viable tool to benchmark nuclear models for decades. Since contemporay nuclear structure investigations aim at the study and understanding of very exotic nuclei at the limits of stability and their decay properties, large and thus highly efficient γ-ray spectroscopy instruments are the basis for continued discoveries into th...

Simulations of possible Ge arrays for the DESPEC setup at FAIR

At the Low Energy Branch of the future FAIR facility, the fragmented beams from the Super-FRS are slowed down in energy or completely stopped. One of the experiments proposed at this branch is DESPEC (decay spectroscopy) where studies of the decay of short-lived nuclei, either in their ground state or in an isomeric state are planned. The ions at some tens of MeV/u will be deeply implanted in a...

Recent progress is presented from experiments on masses and lifetimes of bare and fewelectron exotic nuclei at GSI. Relativistic rare isotopes produced via projectile fragmentation and fission were separated in flight by the fragment separator FRS and injected into the storage ring ESR. This worldwide unique experimental technique gives access to all fragments with half-lives down to the micros...

Study of the performance of tracking algorithms for the DESPEC planar setup

DESPEC is one of the experiments of the low-energy branch project of the future installations at FAIR (GSI). The main goal of this experiment is to study the decay properties of exotic nuclei. The basic instrumentation of this setup includes a set of implantation detectors, a Ge array and neutron detectors. Presently the collaboration is considering two possible setups for the Ge array. One pos...
